Have you ever noticed that when you wear an outfit that brings you joy that it often brings joy to others as well? This truth was highlighted for me one morning at a coffee shop on the Michigan Bay. The outfit was a crazy mix of casual and dressy.
The girl behind the counter with the beautiful blue hair said, “I love your skirt!” A customer standing beside me said, “I love your whole outfit!”
That validation gave me an “aha!” moment about dressing authentically. People just know when you are being yourself and they respond to that.
And in a small way it brought a tiny moment of pleasure to myself and others.
Being authentic in what we wear is a daily dose of joy that’s available to everyone. It’s okay to wear clothes that make you happy instead of feeling you have to fit in with the rest of the world.
“Come on, everybody! It’s time to shine!”
It doesn’t matter what your age is, what your size is or where you come from. Dressing from the heart is for everyone.
There are no rules here. It’s okay to know the rules and play with the rules but you don’t always have to obey the rules.
I had my colors done in the eighties. I am a Summer as far as complexions go. Dusty pastels look best on me. But if I wake up one morning and want to wear orange, then I wake up and wear orange. You are invited to do the same.
Pull out those maxi dresses, shredded jeans, vintage dresses and straw hats! Throw on some bangles or mix silver and gold. Wear whatever you want. The important thing is that when you look in the mirror it makes you smile.
Who knows? Maybe you will make someone else smile, too.
Until next time,
Thrifty Girl Vintage.
